Connecting, Leading, Sharing: SRI in the Field

As SRI Education pursues its mission is to help educators reduce barriers and optimize outcomes for students of all ages and backgrounds, we partner with federal, state, local, foundation, and commercial organizations to find ways to improve teaching and enhance and accelerate learning.

An important part of our work is actively connecting with educators and researchers in the field and leading networks to share best practices and useable findings. We also share our findings and resources in journals, reports, and articles across our websites and blogs.

In this newsletter, we share some of the ways we’re connecting with folks and leading collaborative projects to make an impact in the field. We also offer some of our recent publications and resources to help you think about ways to reduce barriers and optimize outcomes for all learners.

Improving Data, Improving Outcomes (IDIO) 2022 Conference

IDIO Banner 2022, Leadership, Equity, Impact

The Center for IDEA Early Childhood Data Systems (DaSy Center), alongside its Early Childhood Technical Assistance (ECTA) Center partners, hosted the national IDIO conference on August 21–26 in Washington, DC. It was so great to see everyone after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic! This year’s theme was “Leadership, Equity, Impact.”

At the conference, data coordinators and managers from 48 states and territories connected with technical assistance providers and attended various meeting and workshop sessions that increased their capacity to collect and use data for improving outcomes for young children with disabilities. One participant commented, “I loved the sessions that offered practical, innovative ideas to take home and try.”

If you missed the IDIO Conference this year—It’s not too late! You can still check out the session on tips and tricks to make your data visualizations stand out, or learn how the Behavior Incident Report System (BIRS) can help educators address exclusionary practices with young children. The conference page has made all the 30-plus sessions’ video recordings and sessions available online.

2022 Conference

For the first time since March 2019, SREE hosted an in-person conference on September 21–24 in Arlington, Virginia. This year’s theme, “From Reckoning to Racial Justice: Centering Underserved Communities in Research on Educational Effectiveness,” set the tone for deep conversations and timely presentations focusing on equity and inclusion in education.

Thirteen SRI Education researchers (#SREE2022!) presented their varied work on digital learning tools, equity in open educational resources as well as culturally responsive teaching practices! Read their abstracts to learn more about their research and its impacts.

The LEARN Network

SRI Education is leading the Leveraging Evidence to Accelerate Recovery Nationwide (LEARN) network, a new three-year grant funded by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). The LEARN network is part of a federal strategy to address both long-standing and pandemic-related inequities in student achievement. As a solution to post-pandemic recovery in education, the network aims to adapt and scale evidence-based programs and practices on accelerating literacy and math for K–8 students.

Through the combined efforts of the LEARN network, SRI will help establish best practices in the field for effectively scaling evidence-based programs. Learn more about the impact and vision of the network in our announcement.
